Thank you City of Covington, WA (Official) for the update and information - Thank you for keeping us safe! The city has learned about a peaceful protest planned for this afternoon in Covington’s downtown area. As we have been seeing around the region, this may bring rioters and looters to our area to exploit. We ask that everyone avoid the downtown area this afternoon. If you do not have to be in the area, then please stay home. Police will be closely monitoring the situation with an increased presence and our goal is to keep everyone, residents and businesses safe.

Mayor Jeff Wagner would like to share this statement with our Covington residents and businesses:

“Protesters are trying to make a statement peacefully about a wrong that was committed last Monday. George Floyd did not deserve to die and racism is never an answer to anything and needs to stop. Violence is never condoned by our Council or our Covington Police. Looting does not solve anything either.

I hope and pray that our first responders can remain safe through all this. And I also hope that justice is served for the wrong that was committed. I am committed personally to do what I can to help stop racism and help our community survive and thrive.”

If you see something, please say something. Please call 911 in case of an emergency. You can also call dispatch at 206-296-3311 if you would like to report something but do not feel it is an emergency. We love our community and we will do everything we can to protect our residents and businesses and keep them safe.
