Covington Animal Hospital

My name is Gerry Daus, and I’ve been the General Manager of the Covington Applebee’s since it opened 14 ½ years ago. In that time, we have worked hard to be a great community partner. Each year we donate thousands of free kid’s meals to the local elementary schools with our Books are a Blast program. Our Flapjack Fundraiser program raised over $40,000 for local schools, teams, and non-profit groups last year. We work to support our Covington public events with thank you gift certificates for volunteers and free kids meal cards during events. Of course, we have been loyal Chamber members since the beginning.

My franchise group has raised over $8,000,000 dollars over the last few years supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand, MDA, Special Olympics, and just a few weeks ago the American Cancer Society. We also take care of our own with a program called Flynn Family Fund. This is a voluntary program where employees contribute a few cents or a few dollars each week by payroll deduction, and those funds are given out in grants to employees in need. In the last 3 years, we have collected and awarded over $3,000,000 in help to employees who are in need of help. Every Covington Applebee’s employee voluntarily contributes to this program.

Here at the Covington Applebee’s, I have had the pleasure of seeing our young residents grow up and enter the work force. The kids my children went to school with now make up much of my work force. I am proud to say my restaurant currently employs 6 Eagle Scouts and 3 lifelong Girl Scouts, that’s 20% of my staff in scouting for over 12 years each. This includes the 2017 Youth Volunteer of the Year. By the way, they make excellent employees.

Covington has certainly changed a lot over the last 14 years, but one thing remains the same: It’s a great place to work, and a great place to live.
