Congratulations Melanie!! A smiling face in our community who shines at every event and brings joy to those around her! We are thankful to have you as a community leader! Way to go!
Puget Sound FireWPFE Educator of the Year 2020
Melanie Taylor, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority

Early on in the uncertainty of the pandemic, this educator worked with her colleagues to create easily digestible content on safe ways for community members to protect themselves when venturing out for essential items. Throughout the pandemic, Melanie has continued to provide consistent, reliable resources to the community.
2020 was a year few will forget, which only seems appropriate that this year's educator of the year is a person who mentors, models, and supports the growth of fire educators from across the state.
On the state level, this educator has served an invaluable role as a positive mentor to fellow fire educators, a history keeper of values and purpose of the statewide group, and previously served 5 years as the WPFE chair.
Spending time with this educator, most can quickly ascertain her determination to find the good in any situation, her willingness to help when others ask, and her growth mindset are cornerstones of her values both personally and professionally.
It is with great honor, the Washington Public Fire Educators announce Melanie Taylor, of Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority as Educator of the year for 2020.
Thank you for your service and commitment to fire and life safety, Melanie.

Senate Hearing Concerning Safely Reopening Washington.
Would you like to see an equal playing field for ALL businesses and organizations? The WA State Senate is having a hearing tomorrow morning to consider it. Click the link NOW and simply state your position of support (Pro). Less than five minutes of your time can make a huge difference for our small businesses.
On Wednesday, January 20 a hearing will be held on Senate Bill 5114 about safely reopening Washington. The Chamber appreciates the leadership of Senator Tim Sheldon (D- Potlatch), a sponsor of the bill.
By this act, the legislature determines that businesses must be allowed to immediately and safely reopen or resume under the provisions of Phase 2 of the “Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery” plan, as those provisions existed on the effective date of this section. The bill further calls for the legislature to rely upon the best available public health data to determine whether additional actions should be taken.
The public can weigh in on the subject by testifying at the hearing, submitting written testimony, or simply noting their position of support (pro) or oppose (con). To register for your voice to be heard, go to the Senate Remote Testimony webpage, selecting the committee “State Government & Elections” and choosing “1/20/2021 8:00am” as the meeting. A popup will ensue, select “SB 5114 Reopening/Public Health) and then the type of testimony you would like to provide.

Items to note:
To testify live, you must register an hour in advance of the start time of the committee. You may participate via videoconference or phone. Any registration after 6:59am will not be considered valid.
written testimony will close 24 hours after the start time of the hearing. In this case, it will close at 7:59 AM on Thursday, January 21.
